Enigmatic Genesis
They say there was a big bang A second before time began That the skies exploded with glory Disputed only by the creation story That traces time to a few thousands of years or so Instead of thirteen billion years ago The man in the research lab finds this odd He has no time for faith, nor a celestial god While the man in the sanctuary can only pray and hope Reading his holy book; wearing his holy robe One man to science; his loyalty he pledges The other to scripture and the Rock of Ages That God created the world in just a few days What magnificent works, may his name be praised Putting a few billions of people to spin on an axis And never to question the other billions of galaxies The messiahs of old who taught spiritual basics Remain unmoved by the laws of physics If there is a hell below, so many are bound to go But if there is no heaven above, no one will ever know Religion preaches doom as technology advances While up there stars shine to death as the cosmos dances Another one bites the dust, a game of musical chairs If you’re afraid of tomorrow, its right to kneel in prayers The drama out there in space is the same one in our hearts A great assembly of senselessly moving parts I may wish you the very best my dear fellow earthling But am afraid, it’s all much ado about nothing
