Little Ditty
I’ve got a little ditty, And it’s stuck in my head, And it wants to come out right now. It’s made me aware That it wants to get some air; Gonna make it to the surface somehow. What bothers me the most Is that I’ve been diagnosed, And they said there wasn’t anything there. I’ve been singing to the wife, And she can’t for her life, Recall why she ever married this man. Cuz she doesn’t like my song, And I sing it all day long, Or at least whenever I can. When I go for a walk, The neighbors start to talk: There he goes, that crazy old man. And the kids at play All go the other way Just as fast as their little feet can. But my Missy girl’s good, So we walk through the wood, Just a-humming and a-singing this tune. If the squirrels are there, Then we give ‘em a scare By howl-howl-howling at the moon. I hope the tune won’t leave, For then I’ll be aggrieved, And I’ll look for it everywhere. If you don’t have a song That can carry you along, Then I’m happy to give you mine. They say it’s smart, That it’s good for the heart, And it lifts the spirits like wine. The one thing that I see: It’s like infinity. I get right ‘round the bend, And there it is again! Some think it a curse, A disease, or worse, That will plague the rest of your days. But I find the muse a gift That gives me a lift, So I sing whatever she says!
