The Jolly Fisherman
There was a jolly fisherman Who was happy all the time He was at his happiest When he was casting his fishing line, He arose early every morning, At the crack of dawn Eager to go fishing Without a sign of a yawn He had a hurried breakfast A hot mug of coffee and marmalade toast He picked up his tackle and chose the rod he liked most. The river was not far away, and as he strolled along, This happiest of fishermen sang a merry song. This jolly sound awakened birds and animals from their dens, They all hovered around this enchanting gentleman. The ripple of the river, the shade of the trees The ambience of the surroundings It helped all feel at ease. The fisherman sat comfortably, then cast his line, To all at the river bank, everything was fine. Written 17 August 2022 Submitted to " The Jolly Fisherman" Poetry Competition Sponsored by Julia Ward
