The Ultimate Gift
How can I express the love that I feel for you When I don't yet have the ability to speak? After the nine months of bonding that we've gone through, My body begins anew, but is still quite weak. I may be small, but I will continue to grow. Though I'm just a child, I'm a human being. There will be ups and downs, and many highs and lows, But my body will heal; seeing is believing. I may have challenging years ahead of me, But I know you'll be there every step of the way. You are, in more ways than one, the best part of me. You'll be my silver lining when the clouds are gray. I waited many years to meet someone like you, Feeling guilty about hoping for tragedy. The day that you arrived, I didn't have a clue That you'd hang on so long, ever so valiantly. In our shared room together, we fast became friends, Though, from your permanent sleep, you never awoke. Though I needed it to, I didn't want it to end. My life was no longer as strong as an oak. The precious gift of life that you've given to me Will be cherished and loved for as long as I live. Nine months in a coma, but death gave no reprieve. Your donated heart was the last gift you would give.
