Back Then and Now
Sometimes the stories I tell of when I was young, People look at me like I was speaking with forked tongue. I was a horse, and didn’t know the word quit, But now that I’ve gotten older I’ve had to tone it down quite a bit. I used to could party till dawn and go to work without sleep, Then pull a double shift just to earn my keep. Worked on those old drilling rigs most of my life, Doubt I’d be here now if it hadn’t been for the love and prayers of a sweet little wife. She sure deserves Heaven cause I put her through hell here on earth, So if I’ve earned any spot in heaven I’d gladly give her my berth. I drug her and the kids all over Texas and New Mexico, And all I’d have to do is holler load em up let’s get ready and go. I was brash, arrogant, a jerk and just an overall fool, And some of those were my good points, I was good at making up my own rules. My life was in the gutter and I realized I needed something but I didn’t know what, It was then I turned to Jesus and wasn’t sure whether He would help me or not. He was so much better at forgiving than I ever had been, I surrendered it all and confessed all my sins. Now I don’t have to impress anybody, just be my self and try my best to live for Him, I still stumble now and then but the future is better and the outlook is not nearly as dim.
