Flight
The Soul takes her eternal flight when the physique lies dead, This, in theologies, is very beautifully said; Does she have her wings? Or has just ethereal effect? Though mystery, this concept is logically faith-decked...! I used to be fearful of my Zoroastrian friends, Who when the mortal life of kith and kin on this earth ends; Expose their body, as offerings, to flesh-eating birds, They get fed; there might be no pollution, in other words...! I'm not scared of death; lying, yet, within tomb suffocates, Ah! Could I fly with my body to the heavenly gates? We are carried by the angels after death, many say, If so, do bodies that aspire to fly, have any say...? Once I had dreamed of flying toward the heavenly fields, I saw Yama, the god of death, with his protective shields; At my reason he said: 'Bhaiya, many, who reach, are not good, Kaliyug, you know! They might kill the god of death, if they could...! When my aerobatic friend flew toward the sky I thought, Betwixt earth and sky, like birds, he'd tie spiritual knot; He fell down, like a sparrow falling dead, before my eyes, It's, hence, though I stargaze each day, think seldom of the skies...! They attributed my sweetheart's demise to a great flight, I saw her like clouds, flying toward highest of the height; My imagination flies like fastest of birds as well, Yet, wiil the ultimate of my flight, be heaven or hell...??? 01 June 2022 Flight Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Chantelle Anne Cooke
