Swansong
SWANSONG The greatest performance of my life, I gave at that audition. I’d studied the role for days on end, Perfecting my rendition. I’d rehearsed the scene a hundred times, Studying each inflection And, as I stood upon the stage, I knew I’d reached perfection. I stood there in the spotlight And delivered my very best. The director up there in row F Was sure to be impressed.. When I’d finished he thanked me For coming along today, But he said I wasn’t quite right For that particular play. In fact, he told me frankly, It was his firm impression, That, to make a decent living, I was in the wrong profession. I thanked him for his sage advice And made my exit fast. The greatest performance of my life Had proved to be my last. 28th May 2022 The Greatest Performance of My Life poetry contest Sponsor - JCB Brul
