Te Death and Revival of a Proud People
A proud people Ancient, proud and strong Living with the land Primitive yet advanced They survived Sharing land and food No one was left in need Greed grew in others Taking what they wanted The proud people fought Defended their women and children Fought for their way of life Their blood flowed Staining fields where they once lived They died Others suffered through Weak and dying Facing starvation and thirst Forced from their homes Placed on strange lands Not fit for the lowest beast They stood no chance Despite the torture The proud people thrived Their culture killed by outsiders Their ancient ways trashed Fighting back they adapted Relearning their past The words of their ancestors Their spirit grew Now the world who murdered them Treated them like dogs Honors their memories Respects their traditions Finally accepting them As part of the family As human beings
