Forever Young
Eccentric wish of dubious appeal Lodged in my core, not verbalized out loud - Eternal life, strikes like the sweetest deal - Not after but on earth, forever, now. In secrecy I’m contemplating at Such everlasting gift of life to steal, Struggles and strife, indefinitely, but Plenty of time to start over and heal. I’d live to tell the world what lies ahead, If common sense and wisdom don’t apply, Spare uncalled sorrow, perhaps less tears shed, To change the flaws of history I’d try. I’d warn the world against the futile wars, Against their evil root of greed and hate, Men’s mad and lethal games where no one scores - On behalf of fallen I’d advocate. To impart vision of what comes, dare thought, Sweet ignorance knows neither sight nor fears. As wisdom, not lived through, cannot be taught, Most likely my pleas would fall on deaf ears. Choosing the tempt of an eternal bliss Implies watching loved ones age and depart. Immortality – a loner’s abyss A constant burden of a heavy heart. “Forever young” comes at a heavy cost – A ship that never ports at homebound quay, Sailing through generations feeling lost In waters high and low, anchor aweigh. Eternity, though not yet tried and true - To test its pros and cons I’d volunteer - However joyful laced with dark and drear, For greater good I certainly would do! April 21, 2022
