Maid
Maid My maid of honor, my best friend, (smile) help me in the moment, help me in the hour, help me make it down... the great white tower steps. My legs are wobbly, my heart is throbbing. It is deafening in my ears. My fears are not as I expected, they are greater than, I have ever known... (in awe) in my whole life. (a whisper) "Why", you ask? (chocked words) Because this is so important, I need to get it right/write. (a tear unbidden) The dress must be perfect, (a soft smile) my hair, all finely brushed. (you there telling me it is okay) The silk flowers, well scented (made by you... for this hour) and the space full of perfume. (roses... carnations... simple flowers) He will be waiting for me... (handsome, a cowboy) at the altar. (of the Lord) The guests are all seated, in random chairs across the yard. The arbor, placed in the center for the man of God to speak his words. A place for me to stand, a place for him to stand. My claimed father... to give me away. Then, he and me... we will all, stand and say... the promise of love and togetherness on this Earth and unto the next. A blessing for every thought that we will be as one, and together love God. Sweet rose, my lady in waiting... Kind friend, claimed sister in life, thank you for your strength, your endurance and your tenacity. They give me the edge I need to make it down the stair... dancing all the way, in faith that all tomorrows will be even better than this today, as the dance is just beginning and the orchestra is still just warming up. (softly fades...)
