He Reassures Her That He Is Different
He reaches out and reassures her that he is different. Part of her really wants to believe. She has not had a daddy for a long time. But the last stepdaddy was not a good guy. She still has bruises and breaks. Her heart is a puzzle of disjointed cracks and crevices. He speaks softly, giving her pretty words. This alarms her, for it was the last guy’s way. The guy who punished harshly, and threw her around. He mentions religion, thinking this will reassure her. She remembers being hit with the Bible until the cover tore off. Religion is not helping her get over this fear to trust. He brings his mother over. She is a kind woman, anyway she appears kind. But so did the last guy’s mother, until they were alone Then some really bad things happened. She wants to trust. She would love to have a Daddy. But her heart is in pieces; it is going to take time.
