Let's Ban War
“Let’s Ban War” Have your ever thought About banning war? How much better we All would be If we just banned war? So much more we could do. We could buy food And clothe the poor. We could chase butterflies Around in a Zoo. Look at monkeys That looked like you. There is so much we could do, If we just banned war. We could tuck our boys In down filled beds. Throw away the spade That dug their graves. There is so much more we could do. We could drive to Malibu, Swim with the dolphins, In a swimming pool, Without fear of being Called a fool. Build homes for the lost. It wouldn’t be much of a cost. Tis certainly ours to choose, For we couldn’t lose. There is so much more we could do. We could fly to Moscow. No one would ever know The Levis we wear That have no tears. Let everyone have religion, If they so care. Watch news that was good, Farm fields that would not flood, If we just banned war. We could smoke cigars In backroom bars, Play darts While enjoying a beer. Think of the fun We could have. Heal all the diseases That kill. Shut them down With a needle if we Had the will, If we just banned war. Wouldn’t you agree, How much better We would be? Why can’t you see? Little girls could become doctors And professors as well. Provide for our mothers And fathers when aged. There is so much more we could do. Stroll through the Louvre On a Saturday night. Share a table for two In Kalamazoo. Steel a brick from That wall in China too. There is so much more we could do. I can think of many more, If we just banned war. We could save our powder For trips to the moon On bicycles built for two. What a sight that would be. How much fun we could have If we just banned war. For what is it we do? Blow holes in walls? Fill trenches with dead? Will we ever get ahead? It is indeed a crime Whose time has come. Open our minds And let us find, Fields of clover, Instead of this grime. How stupid we are. How egregious it is. There is much more good For us to share, If we just banned war. We could ban guns. Take them off our streets. Rid alleys of crime. There isn’t much difference If you think it through. There is so much more good We could do.... If we would. Rise up my poet friends. Let your ink flow. Speak of peace and harmony. Pen words of joy and love. Put flowers in barrels. It is our duty as you Well know. There is so much more good We can do..... Lon 2/22/2022
