Today I Am the Lucky One
Light green leaves, wineberries on brown stems grow in New Zealand's native bush Sally drinks a glass of red wine each night laughing Forest of tall trees awesome in their backyard The mystery beyond an endless river chasing hot sun uphill With blue moths and orange Californian poppies To have all day to freely roam within a stones throw of my home Today I am the lucky one. Scents linger in the windless sun. On the weed covered stopbank I contemplate The wide valley, white braided river stones Little black crickets sing, green and brown grasshoppers hop leisurely The absence of peoples chatter, the stillness, calmness, peace, only the drone of light planes call my mind upwards into the cloudless bright blue There was a time when I believed in a world unbroken When delight in a flowers coloured wave, an insects purposeful endeavour Took precedence over all thoughts in my mind. There was a time when all my thoughts unspoken receded and the wind blew Down the Taylor river, warm Blenheim wind luxuriously Blew my way, blew me away Such was the power of nature to nurture. The turning day sent me homeward Taking peace inwards I found a quiet house, my home White weatherboard, or pink, yellow or brown? Jasmine growing across the sunporch carpet warm to my feet There is no yelling here in this home
