Sins of Commission
I tried to draft a poem to gain your approbation. But time and distance got in my way. I tried to write the perfect prose to demonstrate my skill. But the memory of standing before a rose covered coffin Left me silent and enraged! Isn’t it odd how time and distance can distort perception? Change remembrance, Warping sad memories, blackening our feelings Where our unworthiness might dwell. It is not a type of weakness when communication goes awry. Misunderstandings can lead to anger. Clinging to resentment I wear the wounds, still unattended and raw seeking correction, repentance, awareness is all. I did not notice the consequences as this became hearts home. A self-imposed prison awaiting invisible adjudication. Waiting for contrition or recompense. Old offences may be sins of omission. My heart cannot bring them out of my cell. Gracious forgiveness is the sad recourse left. I must stand arm and arm with them now, And release the debt they will not pay. I suppose it is latent forgiveness that slows this poet’s pen And I fall to my knees, bowing my head, Seeking God’s Grace again.
