Cinderella Pain
Cinderella Pain Born for fame, to be a princess Her gown hangs in the closet A fine tiara and glamour shoes Ready to see the glories of a grand ball She knows that there is more than these four walls, and the sanctions of control She shines, she polishes and dusts Others all around her are going. She longs to escape the smallness of her life And as she looks in the mirror All she sees is pain Cinderella pain! Her beauty lies buried in a hole so deep it is hidden beneath the rubble Pushed aside, forgotten No longer can be seen The bruises on her face no longer show The deep gashes in her spirit Freely bleed and pour out through her troubled eyes One drop at a time, Sparingly, when no-one looks. She dares to rise in hope Gathering herself for better things Brushing off the dust, she tries to clean her face As she puts on the makeup and combs her hair She looks over her shoulder To see if she can escape even for a night… If she could just attend the ball… Surely her prince would come. And choose her from the crowd. She dreams of loves pure kiss… And living in a castle Happily ever after, or so the story goes… She settles for a good book instead and loses all her dreams For one such as herself the ashes cannot rise Happily ever after, is only in the fairy tales She sips the wine of loneliness and dreams of castles and princes Perhaps another day? Her Cinderella pain is all she knows. Grace Daub written Feb7, 2022
