Barking, a wee squirrel the dog has spied; Into the cold darken void, they both run. Puzzle, with fear, he didn't come back out. Our racing hearts pounding against our chest. Soaking wet with sweat, uncontrollable Quivering legs, we call out for the dog. Bats stream out from their home with our call. A boy in red, walks out of the cold dark cave, The dog traipsing beside him. He looks down at the dog, points toward us. Beside us, the dog runs. His cold stare froze the air around, Snowflakes start rising as the boy vanish. We run through the shadows and dried leaves With every breath our chest heave in fear. 1/12/2022 A Ghost Story Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Angela Tune
