Hard
Be hard on yourself Be that rock that never stops rolling That bell that never stops tolling That hunchback in the tower Go hard on yourself You know the song of love is calling If you’re forever falling, How can you muster any power? Baby, you been comforted and coddled But the answer’s not between the cork and the bottle Don’t ease back and take the foot off of the throttle Time to get hard Be hard on yourself This is no time for surrender Stick your head out of the trenches And jump in the line of fire Stay hard on yourself – You’re a pilgrim and a soldier The point of life’s to get older Not die with your desires Be hard on yourself There’s a meaning to your suffering A hole for all your shoveling To leave a decent legacy Get hard on yourself I didn’t used to believe it The wise man does not seek it He’s already under the tree Be hard on yourself Some might call it rhetoric The corporate people peddle it But an empty slogan, it ain’t Get hard on yourself – Live to the point of explosion Turn your paddlewheel to the ocean and go headlong without complaint.
