Silent Rose
The famous bard from across the pond Inquired, “What is in a name?” A rose of course recorded in history A name is extraordinary, not to be disgraced Without names a contact list Would be nothing but numbers My name does not define me Yet upon hearing it, others believe they know who I am A name can be forgotten A name can be remembered It can be draped in fame Or naked in infamy Hearing a name spoken Can puff one up Or cause another to tremble A name can be handed down To the Second or the Third Or mimicked mercilessly by playground denizens It can be given in marriage Erased in anger 'Tis your name I want to taste on my lips Like an endless symphony, compelling my heart to bound Turning my legs to watery streams Scarcely holding me above the ground The sound of your name is all I hope for Whispered in the night I beckon you to come again Ere' I close my weary eyes Beneath the light of a new day My world has gone gray I stand amongst the forgotten ones The motionless wind hides her face Trees stretch their bare, cold arms to Heaven's Gate Colorless birds silently await To hear the name Carved upon the granite stone Your name Forever Remembered Forever Gone My silent Rose
