A Poem As Lovely As a Tree
I thought that I would never see A poem as lovely as a tree, A tree whose leaves kiss breezes soft Which fluttered them so gently Be they of Maple, Oak or Birch, Be they in valleys or on hills - A tree so lovely as could be No matter where it grew to sway. A poem as lovely as a tree I thought that I would never see, Nor read its lines of written words Describing trees and leaves you’ve heard Rustling, bending, creaking, swaying, In Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring, But, here’s a wee poem hoping to Be competition to a tree. And if this poem match not a tree In beauty, stance, or age or scene, I’ll say I saw a stately tree Of Maple, Birch, an Aspen, Oak, Whatever, for they all, as poems, Present themselves as beauty gives, Nature a tree, a poet- poems, The one of words, the other leaves.
