The Unicorn
I have always loved unicorns but they’re only a fable, they don’t really exist, a mythical, beautiful creature that you can almost reach out to touch with your fingertips They’re right there within your grasp, so mystical, so unique, a beauty that is not for this world, a being that we can’t ever keep A fairytale belonging in a land far, far, away, where love always conquers all and the prince he always stays There are no cruel words, no broken hearts, no empty promises, only love and nothing but magical, unadulterated bliss See I have always wished to see a unicorn, just to be in its presence, to behold, the magical powers it possesses as the stories have always told And here on this earth far away from fairytale land, I came upon a creature as this only under the guise of a beautiful man See when I first saw him and my heart fell in that moment in time, I knew there was something different about him, it wasn’t all in my mind He was unlike any man that I had ever came across in my life, one that was sincere and sensitive and with me wanted to spend his time And oh, he was mystical, so magical, so unique, he captured my heart so easily and ran away with the key Never a sad moment, only happy days, and beautiful nights, being in his arms was enough to suffice me for the rest of my life This man, this myth, this fable, which could not truly exist, was there gazing into my eyes as he slowly kissed my lips The feeling, the softness, the way that he brought me to my knees, there is no way this man was real I was in a fantasy But a fantasy it was, in its own sordid way, he was a creature for sure, but not one of fairytale plays He was a villain, no unicorn for me, only empty promises and lies that he knew would never come to be And there in that rectifying, awakening, soul crushing, moment I should have known, I should have seen, that dreams they never really come true, at least not for me But I wanted to believe again, I wanted to go back in time, I wanted to believe that I found my mystical unicorn and know that this one was mine But he chose to frolic on as these mystical creatures do, he had to return to his real world where fairytales do come true A world where there is true happiness and someone else’s dreams get to come true, I just wasn’t worthy enough to step into that world, at least not with you See you already had another there awaiting your arrival on the other side, and I don’t blame you beautiful one, go on back to your true world where your heart does reside.
