Frozen
Today our world is frozen. Ice formed overnight coating branches White sleeves as if of wool, silver covered trees in the distance A backdrop to a lake of frozen sand, water long drained, it glows in the light Feathers of glinting frost trail from long wisps of grass, graceful, sculpted The ground sparkles, a thousand or more diamonds in the sun And as the morning sun rises each of these wonders brightens, lighting the day A winter postcard too wonderous to send, to treasure and watch Then deer, a pair, walk the lake, quickly across as very exposed, then gone Just another sweet memory of the picture beyond our window Our daily Robin, sorts the food left out, jumping from bush to table As birds come and go and as the sun moves west the light and shadows Change and wane, all sinks slowly, softly to dusk, yet the beauty is not lost Only a different image, still majestic, as it slips under the blankets of night I hope it returns tomorrow
