In Bethlehem
Mary and Joseph had travelled to Bethlehem by decree of Caesar Augustus to be counted for a tax census. Mary was pregnant and in pain but they could find no room at any inn so, they found shelter in a stable for animals In the evening Mary gave birth to a baby boy who was the son of God sent to save the world Mary laid her baby in a manger meant to feed animals and wrapped him in a swaddling cloth the animals gathered, the donkey, the cow, lambs, sheep, and all other creatures there along with watchful shepherds . . . The baby boy would be called Jesus he came into the world with nothing but his Kingdom would never end A Christmas star led three wise men and they brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, for angels had appeared to them singing songs of praise and the star led them to Jesus where they knelt in prayer And so each Christmas we are reminded of the story and birth of Jesus ______________________ December 17, 2021 Poetry/Free Verse/In Bethlehem Copyright Protected, ID 12-1413-657-17 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, Nativity sponsor, Eve Roper, Judged 01/18/2022 Third Place
