Somebody's Daughter
SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER Do the ones that held an angel baby girl, Know that she has come unjumbled? A beautiful cherub face framed with auburn hair Her eyes so bright they could see the hope, Of a thousand unlived dreams in her future. Do they know that their baby girl, Is washing her glorious, matted locks In the sink at the laundromat? She mumbles to herself and anyone who cares to listen Incomprehensible words “Do you have a blow dryer?” she asks As if I had one in my pocket… “Sorry I don’t have one with me” I said She showed me her pail, a travelling toilet Her grocery cart parked just outside the door, Holding all she possessed. SHE IS SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER!! Do they know she’s come undone? Do they lie awake at night? In total fright… Does this panic consume their days? as they try to live their lives? What happened to those dreams they saw in her bright eyes? She could have been a doctor or an engineer, She could have changed the world! She could have been a momma and brought grandchildren to their house. What kind of cruelty took away these dreams? Who thrust her in this coffin and threw away the key? Is she hungry every day and where does she sleep at night? Is she cold and all alone? Will the poison that she feeds her brain make her forget… THAT SHE IS SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER? Is she so far gone; she can’t come back? A million little pieces? She’s dancing with some demons that are torturing her soul. Pushing a grocery cart straight over a precipice Has anyone seen her fall? So, if you see her on your street, Her hair a jumbly mess and mumbling and stumbling Show kindness and please don’t judge. Those demons that stole her life, could steal your life too! Remember that… SHE’S SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER! Grace Daub written December 8,2021
