I Taught I Taw a Puddycat
Expiry date 14. I taught I taw a puddycat Consumed by hellish flame And from the ash... a boisterous Death Was calling out my name. I turned away in wretched fear With an ere attempt to flee. But Death was quick and fleet of foot And primed to capture me. My foolery came to nothing as I prepared to accept my fate As no one slips the Reaper When you reach your expiry date. The End The Autumn Leaves 15. The autumn leaves are falling now With no particular place to go. The warmth that teased an apple grove Has annulled its daily show. The winds grow crisp and sullen With hills undressed to bear the cost. The flowers give rise to a torpidity That divines the coming frost. But such is Nature's clear intent To give repose to those well-bred Till the nourishment of a vernal spring Awakes them from their bed. The End 16. My Son is quick to speculate On how the world works. He questions Earthly inconsistencies... Their oddities and quirks. With his Mother dead and laid to rest, He made such queries of the town. "If Heaven lies in celestial skies, Why put her in the ground?" The End I Will Not Judge 17 I would not judge my brethren Lest they quest to hinder me. I would not raise an arm in hate To those who disagree. But its not enough to idly stand While others flaunt their past mistakes And with glee discommode themselves To that point where I may break. We must challenge these malcontents And the mayhem they may seek But not give in to pointless thuggery And instead turn the other cheek. Let them loose their slings and arrows That pervades some cosmic thrill As there are causes I would die for... But none for which I'd kill. The End 18. Unburden all vitriolic trappings And watch the winds of chaos flee. Give voice and let slip the tongue That screams necessity. The End Thunder 19. I heard thunder in the night... The pelt of stinging rain. The wind that blew the soil hence To mark my neighbor's gain. My roof enraged in some dispute... To stay or blow away? While my fence in abject deference Would see not the light of day. The storm magnified in its severity... I wasn't sure how my end would be. I took solace in the Lord above To find some good in me. But with all things cruel and harsh... Nature gave thought to my relief And with the passing of an angry sky... I've earned a moments peace. The End 20. How abundant is my valley. How ample are the trees. With one old oak to mark my spot And cast its shade on me. I'm enthralled by such perfection... My apprehension melts away. While those who slake my very soul Must wait another day. The End *Follow my cartoon at Webtoon Bob's Your Uncle.
