Clickety Clack the Wheels On the Track
The smell of a steam train passing me by The roar of the engine brings a tear to my eye Such dear childhood memories of when you and I would watch from our garden smoke rising so high The “clickety-clack” of the wheels on the track as the engine emerged from a tunnel so black Ma would despair as the smuts in the air would stick to her washing she’d just hung out there Now longing to see an engine so free It was almost alive Such a monster to drive A magnificent sight It would truly delight In plush wooden carriages we travelled afar An adventure each time with our Ma and our Pa So much nicer than driving our old battered car But trains of today have nothing to offer Overcrowded are they and they all look the same for nothing compares to a real live steam train 'cept maybe a Bullet Train I rode in Japan so long, sleek and white just like Concord on rails It was fast it was sleek it was comfy and clean but I somehow still yearn for that smell of the steam ~~~~ do you know what I mean...
