Excerpts From the Compilation Prayer, 13, Connected and Gratitude
Excerpts from the compilation, “Prayer” 13. Connected! and Gratitude. I wish that we can really, deeply understand That we ARE Connected! And Inextricably Dependant on each other, And then, It is harder to forget to appreciate and thank The foreign and anonymous toilet cleaner in the station, Or the far away, underpaid, undernourished Factory worker (In places with names we can’t even pronounce), Who assemble our newest mobile devices And shiny laptops, And oh so cheap and fashionable clothes And pretty new shoes. Or the farmers and millions of impoverished humans Who provide our daily food, Working in the fields till they collapse in the burning sun. The overworked and stressed Doctors, Nurses and hospital workers That are there day and night in our emergencies. And millions of so called “underdogs” and invisibles That fulfil our constant needs, desire and wants. Especially the ones that regularly risk their lives So that we can feel safe, secure and comfortable. Can we open our minds and hearts? For the innocent Children And the countless victims of (stupid) wars, That, because they just happened to be In the wrong place at the wrong time, Or that they are the wrong colour, race or religion, Lose their jobs, homes, friends and families And have nowhere to go where they too can feel safe? And instead of us being afraid That we will never have enough And instead of being envious, suspicious And fighting each other: I wish that we practice and nurture Gratitude, For all we have and receive From the Earth And each other, Yesterday, today and tomorrow. © Sangeet Portals 2020
