Lady Morte
Everywhere I look, everywhere I turn I see her… A moth-like shadow flitting by on cobwebbed wings Stalking me… Dancing closer with every spasmodic leap of birthdays, Every rotation of the sun… I can almost feel her breath on my skin Smell the rancid stench of her decayed flesh She is hunting me Dogging every twist and turn in the rocky path of my life Marking with cruel eyes each mistake I make Every stumble, every catastrophic, fall Every wrench to my heart and tug on my soul… I amuse her with my mortal errors, My fruitless attempts at forging a life for myself Amidst the jumbled debris of so many broken souls… A thin-lipped smile ghosts across her haggard countenance She knows you see, She comprehends the pointlessness of it all She hunts me down to show me the foolishness of my determination ‘Halt now dear’ she hisses in a sibilant whisper ‘Stop this laboring lumbering dance of yours – and come, Come to me – let me hold you in my arms My name is Death, And I’ve been waiting for you since your birth… Oh how I’ve longed to hold you in my arms and wash away your pain… To erase the hardship etched on your piteous human face… And now I can – All you have to do my pitiful girl Is stop your pointless struggle And let me hold you for a while...’
