Quiver
Autumn leaves in mid-day sunlight swirl down, crimson and golden brown, from atop the sugar maple trees crown. Fisher, a six-year-old boy, with fine fiery red curls like maple leaves, angelic almond shape emerald green eyes, and freckle chubby cheeks the color of blush wine, in a white tee, blue overalls, and boots; full of sunshine laughter and mischief. He runs and kicks the leaves around, as squirrels scamper up the tree. Russell, his cinnamon and white basset hound, spins round and round, jumping up and down, barking at the squirrels. Fisher trips and falls; as he runs to catch up with his hound. With tears pooling in his wide frighten eyes, his little lips begin to quiver; yells out for his hound. Russell raises his ears and cocks his head as he hears his name. Russell wags his tail and runs, up to his master's lap, licks him full of kisses, giving him a joyful smile. 9/28/2021 ''Q'' Contest, New Only Poetry Contest 6. quiver Sponsored by: Constance La France
