Critical Race Theory
I used to stay up all night Dreading the terror beneath by bed Thoughts of the boogy-man Ran wild in my head He came in the dark Looking for a moment to strike My only defense was to keep On the light Oh surely he would get me The terror, the fiend I must stay vigilant Or dream my last dream Constantly on guard Aware of the threat I would lay in the sheets I would fear and fret Every moving shadow Every creak, every sound I was alert and tense My heart would pound Waiting on an enemy Who was so slow to appear And as I grew tired of being besieged The day drew near I gathered up my courage To finally face this foe I turned off all the lights And waited for him to show I sat in the dark Waiting for him to pounce With every sound I heard The tension would mount But there was no attack He didn't come to get me I sat there bewildered as The thought finally hit me I got up, checked the closet And then under the bed But I found not trace, not a hair, Not a thread Relieved washed over me, Then embarrassment, I was red It was like he had existed, But only in my head
