Computers, Facebook, mobile phones, was words we’d never heard but we sure all knew what Twitter was, a noise made by a bird. I looked forward to the weekends when the school days were all done I’d meet up with my buddies, we’d mess around and have some fun So, after early morning breakfast, I was impatient to be free And mothers’ words on leaving, make sure you’re home for tea. So, we all met up together, and took a walk up to the park Where we tested all our boundaries, staying out till after dark. Just where the hell have you been, mum said to me that night I said, be home at teatime, you heard me say that right Suffice to say the punishment, for my disobedient crime I was grounded for the weekend, till I learned to tell the time Now that may seem so trivial, to the kids brought up today But to me, it was pure misery, not being allowed to go and play. So, the most important thing I learnt, about my mother’s rule Don’t try to get the best of her, as she wasn’t born a fool Those rules are for a reason, they’ll help keep you safe and sound And will help you as an adult, to face life’s battleground.
