Forest Lullaby
Seven leagues to market and the hills are steep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Shepherds in the pasture guard their master’s sheep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Village women gossip as they cook and sweep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Guardsmen swear and gamble where the ale is cheap. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Castle walls are mighty, moat is dark and deep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Torchlight in the tower, hear the maiden weep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Through an iron keyhole, silent eyes do peep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Shadows from the green wood toward the castle creep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Arrows arc unerring, flames draw breath and leap. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Luck be with the daring, they whom angels keep. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Moon above the ruins, stones lay in a heap. Baby is so tired now, she mustn’t fall asleep. Rest beneath the bower, just rewards to reap. Baby is so tired now, it’s time she fell asleep. Nature will supply water, earth and sky. Stage your play in green and gray, a forest lullaby.
