My Food Bank Experience
Government announced lock down. We read reports in paper of millions of poor going hungry. Immediately group of volunteers including myself started food bank. We announced about it in press, Among friends and WhatsApp. Lot of donations poured in. The day before distribution we worked day and night Cooked and packed thousand food packets. Next morning we were ready and waiting to distribute it to poor. When we opened the windows of our establishment for free distribution, not a single soul was at sight. We panicked! Our food should not go waste. Why was this happening? Little later we found out that there were policemen on the road. No one was allowed to come out of the house. Strict lockdown was being implemented everywhere. Does that mean a poor will die hungry? We kept the food packets in our cars and set out to reach the poor. Policeman waved us to stop, we didn't bother. We kept moving and distributing. Within few hours our vehicles were empty but heart heavy. Tears of gratefulness in the eyes of poor. Poverty and misery of masses was unbearable. Although panic ended, we were left with deep sadness that made us all cry inconsolably 05.08.2021 Kai Michael Neumann Panic at the Food Bank
