Winter Wind the Boy From Colorado
Winter Wind The Boy from Colorado By David J Walker Cold Dry Grey The winter winds Select the day To rush the trees And brush the field Where cotton corn and wheat Would yield It’s fruit before the Harvest moon Then fades in Autumns afternoon Such comes Of Winter Winds On Open Plains Grey and cold With nothing to hold The Northern blast of Harsh refrains Forcing all to seek Even the most humble walls And hide inside From relentless winds Until the Spring Its spell rescinds I’ve yet to see An artist play With colors from That winters day But I was the boy From Colorado Who knew winters smile And the kiss of snow And the hearth With amber afterglow Gentle heavy flakes That grow On limbs of spruce And Fur And Pinion Pines And bow to earth In graceful lines With layers deep In heavens dust White Pure Silent Snow boots Tramp the snowy trail Where hearty Boys and girls prevail With sleds on hills And snow forts white Attacks the foe In Snowball fights The laughter rings Within our ears And echo’s in Our later years And visions of White-capped Mountains creep Into our dreams In aging sleep Snowmen and Snow Angels Welcome home Our memories That glow in smiles And take away Our daily trials As sentinels they stand As guards On playgrounds Parks And Snowy yards The early dusk On winters day Invites us in And bids us stay By the glow of Flames The scent of pine The warmth of home In early times Now the wind Grows colder On the Plains As each winter Enters Once again With memories That still remain Of the Boy from Colorado
