Walkathon
After autumn’s end the first winter morning The nippy air from the north gave a warning Cover your head and pull up your sock Before going for a walk, message your flock Ideal weather for a walkathon, I gave a call What a pity! Energy wasted, no response at all Followed Tagore’s wisdom and went on my own If no one is willing to take your call, go alone I sneaked out remembering COVID’s invasion The virus visited us despite all our dissuasion Spread like wild fire to all corners of the earth Devouring life and heralding the devil’s birth I felt organizing a walkathon was a sound cause To draw people’s attention and not applause It raised the general level of hygiene in the town And improved conditions to avoid a lockdown The general life in the city has changed for ever Can’t overcome COVID fear despite all endeavor Social distancing has become the norm of the day Visiting malls and restaurants have gone astray Private office workers are having whale of a time Absenting from office no longer considered a crime In fact, they are encouraged to work from home Complete their tasks without having to roam Meeting distant relatives have become an obsession Enforced travel rules and restrictions give no concessions Anticipating the vaccine with our fingers crossed Hope it would redeem us from the freedom we have lost END
