The Common Enemies
This might be an unpopular opinion But I insist you skim through it Give yourself some time to think Your perspective might just shift. There are girls who are caged and restricted Daughters who are discriminated against and neglected Young girls are told they ought to be good mothers and wives when they mature As if marriage and household work are all they were born to endure. It is not easy for them to break the norms And pursue their passion whilst battling the storms Yet they transcend all expectations and leave a mark despite the odds. Now let us come to the little boy Who was only handed cars and action figures as his toys He will have to earn the bread, and for his family fend Is what the society told him and even his friends. Never was it conveyed that even his partner could share the load And that there could be two people rowing the boat The idea of his partner earning more than him Was an alien concept, equivalent to a sin. This constant pressure to become successful To get a job and make money, became stressful He has carried this baggage of expectations throughout his adulthood Whether he is the ‘ideal man’ or just deserves to be overlooked. Now I hope you understand The fight was never women vs. men Or even us vs. them The common enemies are the social constructs and the constant judgement. They have decided our boundaries, our responsibilities and even our fate But whether we want to bow down to them, is the actual debate So, let us thrive for a world where our gender does not decide our place in it Whether you are a boy or girl shouldn’t matter as long as you have the grit. But always remember that we are in this together Because the fight was never women vs. men The common enemies are the social constructs and the constant judgement.
