Natures Charms
Picking black raspberries Wading through briars and underbrush Knowing that there are snakes and spiders and such Blue stained fingers capture the white lie That laughs from lips dry, thirsty For a sense of fluid feelings drizzling on naked skin Drained by the tangerine sun glowing Breathing light across the penetrating shadows Aching to color hope with blazing embers of assurance Thoughts drift across a numbed mind Feelings blending carefully, music of humbleness Bleeding crimson as the nicks from quick little thorns Reflections of lavender memory Melancholy dread and fear that spread From silent screams echoing in the past, history Finally my pail is filled to overflowing Drinking in the liquid lure of laughter, light Lasting from dawn to dusk, glimmering stardust muse These berries will dissolve into moments Hastening to enrich lives with precious promises Of homemade jelly, domesticated flavors of rich grace Prayers fall from my tongue Beckoning to God with tender psalms Erasing all recollection of the stinging Brought on by bristles lingering Protecting those berries from all harm I have gone and taken away the ones Who were sheltered – defenseless Now they drizzle across my spoon Sweet and succulent as a soft song Let every berry flavor a heart With kindness, joy, inspiration That comes from nature’s charms
