A Delighted Bride
I’ve failed Him So many times, in so many ways Through transgressions All along my path Through indulgences In sin and wrong Through crimes Which always harm I’ve failed Him In ways I can’t even describe Left Him pained Because He stood at my side Caused Him tears Because of my alibis Made Him sad Even though I’m His child I’ve failed Him Darkened His gaze With wickedness and failure Shadowed His light With black dread and fear Colored His hopes In depravity and flaws Failures that taunt and haunt I’ve failed Him Made sin my only friend As I begged Him again and again Please forgive me For the offenses within The ones that make me feel Like I shouldn’t enter in To the relationship with Him I’ve failed Him Left His spirit grieved Because when He was my need I turned to addictions and things That destroyed my life Left me with so much strife I couldn’t turn back to Him The One who breathed life into me I’ve failed Him Known that I was wrong Still clung to the darkest loss In spite of the truth that screamed Through silent echoes of dreams Knowing that He would agree His peace would finally free me From the horror of sin I’ve failed Him But, in spite of my flaws, He continues to give me all I need to carry on To keep trying to love With all my heart To keep the faith in His love Which saved me and assured me Someday I’d live above Where His pure, unconditional love Surrounds me like a glove Sent to remind me I’m His A child of the King A brother to whom I cling A God of who I sing I’ve failed Him The way, the truth, the life But He has never failed me His delighted bride Once More I Failed the Truth Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Kai Michael Neumann June 27, 2021
