Days After War
My soul strayed from my body yesterday I woke up to the chirping of crows a distance from my fathers house, Reading the letters I received in a past life, Before I was sent off to the frontiers of war To see the foundry of the steel weapons that are to unmake this flesh and bone And give me up to such an unforgiving sky. The sun eclipsed over the horizon and gave light to the darkness in a four cornered room, Beside me, is the lady I prayed to ascend above cumulus clouds with, She was the last thing I was obliged to look at before I close my eyes and the first voice I needed to hear when I wake up As if I would not see tomorrow if didn’t, A fortnight before that, the same had happened The only difference is my soul was where it’s suppose to be But my wrist had lost control It found itself writing another set of vowels,as I laid there thinking of a reason to write, Someone to be the woman in these my songs of songs, Then I found it, Looking like a five foot promise sent by the maker to keep my heart in her parcel, I love her like the last body that refuses to turn embers in the crematorium Or perhaps the way one loves an empty chamber in a Russian roulette And after a million times of the sun and the moon orchestrating the alchemy of day to night And the earth can no longer rotate around the sun, I promise to read these letters at war For if Im to come to you only to be put beneath the recipe of my bone and flesh, I wish to atleast win these wars beneath Egyptian cotton.
