He was tall, honey color with chiseled cheeks. He had the intuitive to recognize a sophisticated woman. He introduced himself as a Pastor. I proudly professed that I was a corporate lawyer. We exchanged business cards. He invited me to his church. Weeks later, while I was searching the bottom of my Gucci for my tube of lipstick, I came across his business card. I decided to take him up on his invite. It was a quaint church. I said to myself, although I am a sophisticated woman I can do quaint. The place was crowded. I said to myself, I am a sophisticated woman, and that I can do crowds. I squeezed my thin shapely body between two Deacons on the front row. In my most sophisticated way, I crossed my legs, making sure that the red bottom of my Christian Louboutin was in plain view. I adjusted the skirt of my expensive dress and reluctantly placed my Prada handbag on the polished floor. I stood with the rest of the congregation when he came into the sanctuary and claimed his spot behind the podium. He was impressive looking in his white robe, and my heart fluttered, but I am a sophisticated woman, and so I kept my composure. The choir sang backup to a round woman, whose wig was slightly twisted awkwardly to the left of her head."Poor thing", I said and ran my diamond adorn fingers through my weave that cascaded down to the center of my back, and I was satisfied at its perfection. She sang "Oh How Precious" and the congregation shouted hallelujah and glory to God. With my silent voice, I said to myself, that I am too reserve in my nature to let my emotions take over. I clapped a rhythm beat in measurements to the song. The handsome Pastor looked at me and I was delighted in spirit that he recognized me. I smiled at him, but he didn't smile back. He put aside his notes. He then opened his bible and instructed everyone with a bible to turn to the book Ecclesiastes, chapter six, verse two. He paraphrases the verse.I did not bring a bible, nor did I own one, and so in half interest, I listen. He then quotes Proverbs, roaring out a message about vanity. The message hit me like a ton of bricks, and I started to lose my composure. He went on to the book of Psalm and then rocketed into a more powerful sermon about turning away from worthless things and giving your life to God. My soul was set ablaze. He changed my life that day. Today we are married.
