Costumes
COSTUMES There are costumes in the world today called “Christianity,” But will they hear Christ say to them some day, “Depart from Me”? There are costumes of self-righteousness that many people wear, Though God will say they’re filthy rags, they do not seem to care. There’s costumes of the rituals some practice every day Like repetitions that they utter every time they pray. And what about a moral life, or Christian family? So many wear that costume now so proud for all to see. Ah, yes, there is that church so great they go to people meet The costume of a hypocrite they wear there in that seat. They tithe, they sing, they serve the Lord so often they will say But if the costume were removed for all to see today, It would embarrass them, perhaps, but I know I also find Sometimes I’ve put those costumes on at just the perfect time. I need the voice from Jesus then to use His word to say, “Take off that costume that YOU wear, you can’t fool ME today!” So, Jesus, I approach Your throne and ask You to forgive; Take off the costumes I’ve put on by the way I sometimes live. May the only thing that people see and never need to guess That the only thing I’m wearing is Your holy righteousness!
