Lingering Memories
Gray mist mingles with tears sired in grief My cold skin streaked by the hushed warmth of sorrow Broken morning wooing my pain Withered leaves once the color of emeralds Prance over the cobblestoned path Like tiny dancers tapping toes and heels to Nature’s unheard symphony Naked trees line the path of lingering memories If I don’t move If my eyes refuse to look away I can see her Who she was Before Grace adorned in flowing crimson Alabaster skin reaching for promises of tomorrow She twirls barefooted and carefree The pathway clamoring for her touch My heart beating faster in anticipation of seeing her face again I can’t see her face God help me please see her face again Glowing steel cuts my soul One more time I beg Before she is gone Forever Let me see who she was Before I watched her die With no lingering memories of me
