1996 Spring Planting
It was the spring of 1996. I had four dogs, who lived outside in houses. They watched me till the soil for a flower garden. It took me an hour. Spent another hour and a half planting forty-two tulip bulbs. I have always liked tulips; they are so carefree, pretty and vivid. Their vibrancy would bring a pop of color to the front of my garden. I planned to plant peas, green beans, carrots and tulips. Spent, I went inside for a little nap. An hour later I came out to see my dogs digging. They had dug up and eaten thirty-eight of the tulip bulbs. I did not stop them as they devoured the last four. What would have been the point? This is the last time I planted tulip bulbs.
