Forest of Magical Readers
Magical fey of the forest are avid readers, all the time They carry books around with them as they travel, in the grime. Their books are mystical and follow them around as they work. They glean the words from several feet away, like their Queen Lurk. Humans! Someone will caution them, and the books will blink out Each one of them has an invisibility ability that makes me want to shout. I pretend I have not seen them, so the faeries can feel they are smart. In actuality, I can spy on them and read them too. I have a fey heart. The butterflies have their I-pads, and the toads have their I-pods now. The woods are upgrading, but please do not tell the cows or sow. The farmer is keeping them ignorant, so he can use them in his ways. Very few of us who can see the books flying around in the woods these days. A human! Queen Lurk cautions, and the books disappear at once. I wander through the forest, picking morrell mushrooms for my lunch. I pretend to not see the elves, faeries, gnomes or brownies while I’m here. They would be disappointed if they knew that to my mind they are all clear.
