A Christmas Penny
The street was full of horse and sleigh all draped in Christmas joy. As Parents raced from shop to shop to buy much needed toys. The kind Sister at the Convent had pressed a penny in her hand. The orphan wasted little time in putting forth her Christmas plan. The child stood by a window with Her nose pressed on frosted pane. Marveling at the books and dolls... their pretty clothes and games. Would a single penny be enough to grant all she might desire And have a special toy to call her own while playing by the fire? A cough roused her from this state as a beggar walked among the fray. Wearing clothes that mirrored hers but the crowd just turned away. It was hard to see one so frail at this wondrous time of year. What came next... would break her heart... The beggar shed a single tear. She dropped her penny in his cup... Amazed at the feeling she derived... And the ease to which a simple task may cause Christmas cheer to thrive. So blessed are the many children who give pause in their lament And strive to make a better world for those without a cent.
