Hang On Sister
Hang on sister I’m glad I saw you, made the effort Left all the baggage behind and arrived With an open heart. Still unsure why I did? You’re just like how I remember mum. Four-feet nothing, plump and round I’m getting there, it’s what aging does. So glad I called, unannounced, I didn’t Give you time for an excuse and no Time for my excuse. We’ve never had a meal together. Never met on Christmas day. We forgot About Christmas cards and birthdays We should have done more, but neither Of us likes inconvenience or crowds But? Times caught us now. There’s a tear in my Eye. Unexpected to be honest, but it wells Waiting to fall. Hope it’s not today, hope It’s never at all. Three score years and eleven, that’s where you Are, I’m ten years behind, but in a fast car. I don’t want it to be today. It’s raining and grey. Hang on, try to find a few extra miles, perhaps We can alter the past a little. Hang on sister. David Cox 14/12/20
