On Going Deaf
On Going Deaf And now I see each word you say Do other people talk that way? And then when comes the real test, Will your mouth look like all the rest? Are all lips soft and full of speech? Can they tell? Can they teach? And tell my eyes what they should hear? Stay away! Don’t come too near, Yet knowing what it is I fear. Can you still hear me? Gently curving to the right Brings warmth into my every night, With tongue so moist and welcoming, Each tiny movement rippling ‘cross perfect teeth of ivory. Glistening, shining, just for me But lasting for so short a while You make me ache with every smile. Another name? Another file? Or can’t you hear me. So I await that fateful day To see your lips move when they say “There’s nothing else that I can do” Yet in my heart I always knew That soon enough my time would come When others needs were better done And so you tear a jagged hole In heart and mind….unworthy soul. I’ve felt the joy, I’ll pay the toll, But I can’t hear you!
