To yellow and orange, crispy and brown, And the wind has started to blow them down Where they land at my feet without making a sound. I guess summer is going away. It’s cool as I walk through the neighbourhood park, Heading for school in the morning. With the leaves all crunching under my feet, They collect in a pile under my seat, As I sit and watch them swirl round and round. Yes, autumn is giving us warning. Most of the leaves have now gone from the park, The gardener took them away. Swept into heaps, then put into sacks, Except for the ones that are hidden in cracks, Or those in my classroom that children have found. And winter is closer today.
