Space Overtaken
Space Overtaken To many tomatoes fill up my fridge Grown from the garden, a tasty delish When seeds were first sown, did a no show Planted some more, twice many did grow Offered some out to family and friends But they had themselves twenty times ten With seedlings now to many to count Not one to be wasted began to place out Seedlings aligned in the vegetable patch Garden plants nursery waiting to hatch Some in pots and oblong planters Hanging baskets - swaying decanters Nurtured an watered sun on them all Grew so well some ever so tall Hundreds of flowers waiting to bare fruits Slugs and snails hide, waiting to loot Bees humming as they pollinated Tiny green balls soon generated Twice weekly fed grew them much bigger Some so big grew skin much thicker As time went by they started to turn Green to red ripen by suns burn Fast yielded more than could be eaten Gave many away, space overtaken Made soup, mine was just water and pips Oven dried toms but burnt them to crisps What ever I tried I failed miserably Even the sauce was clumpy and gooey Ripened so fast twice daily out picking Got to admit they gave me a butt kicking Next year will buy only plants that I need Instead will grow flowers for insects to feed Then sit in my garden with wine on the table Enjoying the birds and the nests that they cradle Nature is intended to what it should be Left in its harmony and natural beauty. 24.09.20
