The Last Rose
…The Last Rose… Love, like the last delicate petals of a budding rose, Kiss me - wake me from my grey midnight dreaming, Hold me before the first light of the day transposes The breath of moonlight’s silver shadows teeming. Tenderly as the soft color of the rose caress me Brush away the thorns protecting my soft heart; Cast off this spiny sheath of tears so I may see Blossoms open – ecstasy you impart. Embraces like the fragile rose fire ignite me In the elegance of cherished vanishing blooms Trace your fingertips along my bursting seeds Rejoice for these last moments in the rose’s womb. Then like the fragrance lingering in this fading rose, Like the rapture tinged with love’s perfume Leave your scent in a perfumed afterglow And slowly fade into the morning gloom. 9-26-20 Contest: A Night of Passion and Desire
