One Volunteer, Katrina Afterwards
I take time for coffee and croissants, Pack the car and drive to Houston town. Make delivery of food and clothes, Bandages and diapers; meeting wants. Inbound on US Highway 59 Long lines move slow, who can they all be? Visitors who peek at disaster? No, they're just like me. Here to combine United community effort. Everyone shares disaster's burdens With trained professionals who care; do What they can to ease and abort, Victims angry fears by giving them Tender care, love, and compassion's grace. Today, their new life begins. It is Found within this chaos and mayhem. The weary need rest and blankets too. Offer an ear, a shoulder, or hand. Be a friend whose empathy shares a Teary smile and a speechless thank you. Tonight I'm weary, this day's been long, Inside my sad heart there's light and joy; Today's pilgrims share the courage, of America's sense of right -- that's strong. My eyes close with a prayer on my lips, Thankful that I am able to be, One Volunteer making a difference Helping some cope as they come to grips.
